Collection: DOUGLAS KIRKLAND

Douglas Kirkland (1934–2022) was born in Toronto, Canada. He joined Look Magazine in his early twenties and later Life Magazine during the golden age of 1960s and 70s photojournalism, shooting iconic portraits including Brigitte Bardot, 1965. His fine art photography has been exhibited worldwide.

His exhibition Freeze Frame is now in the permanent collection of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills. His work also holds permanent positions at the Smithsonian, the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Eastman House in Rochester, the Houston Center for Photography, and the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.

In September 2008, Vanity Fair Italy organised a retrospective of his work at the Museum of the Triennale in Milan. Kirkland was also a sought-after lecturer and a member of Canon's Explorers of Light, as well as an associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
